Perfume can really improve how you smell. It is great to use when you are going out on a big date or when you have to attend a party. While it can really improve the way you smell, it is only good when you use the adequate quantity. Using too much can really be bad as it will be very strong and will put off the people around you. Such is the case when you accidentally spill your perfume all over your carpet.

While most perfumes are clear liquid which usually do not leave a stain, there are those which are colored and can really leave a mess if you spill it on your carpet. More concerning about this kind of spill is having the strong smell permeate from your carpet. This is why you should learn how to properly clean up the carpet after this kind of mess in order to get your carpet back to normal.

If you have accidentally spilled perfume on your carpet, here are some tips on how you should handle the situation.

• The first thing that you should be doing is to extract the spilled perfume on your carpet. Try to remove the excess liquid by using a sponge or a paper towel and blotting the spilled area. If you act fast, you may be able to prevent the perfume from penetrating deep into the carpet fibers thus making it easier to clean up.
• Once you have removed the excess perfume, it is time to deal with the possible stain and the odor on the carpet. You can remedy this by making a cleaning solution out of dishwashing liquid and a quart of water. The dishwashing liquid will help eliminate any kind of stain or mark as well as remove some, if not all, of the odor from the carpet.
• Apply the dishwashing liquid cleaning solution on the stain and then blot the area repeatedly using a paper towel. Work your way from the outside of the stain moving inward for the best results.
• After repeatedly blotting the perfume stain on your carpet, you will be able to completely get rid of it along with the strong smell that it has on y our carpet.
• If the smell remains, allow the carpet to dry completely then pour some baking soda on the place where the spill was. The baking soda will help neutralize the odor and make your carpet odor-free again.
• After allowing the baking soda to set on your carpet for about thirty minutes to an hour, extract it by using a wet/dry vac to finish off the job.
