Men and women want to smell nice whenever they go outside their homes, whether it be going on a date or just hanging out with friends. Perfumes come in handy for this as tons of people use it everyday for them to smell great and be ready for any occasion. Sadly, perfume spills are not entirely uncommon and you may someday find yourself spilling an entire bottle on your carpet. Using a little perfume to improve your scent is one thing but spilling a ton on one area of the carpet can really be a problem. Aside from having to deal with the possibility of having stains, neutralizing the strong smell can also be a hassle.
If you have not tried cleaning up perfume spills before, you have come to the right place. Below is an easy to follow guide which you can follow to solve this cleaning problem for your carpet. Here’s what you’ll need to do to take care of that perfume spill on your carpet.
- Act fast and quickly get a paper towel as soon as you have spilled the perfume on the carpet. Blot the affected area with the paper towel to absorb as much of it from the carpet’s surface. This will prevent the mess from penetrating deeper into the carpet so that you won’t have a harder time cleaning it up.
- Next, mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar with 2/3 cup of warm water to create a cleaning solution you can use to neutralize the strong smell of the perfume on the carpet. This will also help in attacking the stain and making it easier to remove. Place this solution inside a spray bottle and soak the stained area with it.
- After letting the stain soak in the cleaning solution for a couple of minutes, the next step is for you to blot the stain using a clean white cloth. Gently blot the stained area of the carpet from the outside going in. Apply slight pressure as you do this to help in removing the stain from the carpet and transfer it onto the cloth.
- Repeat the previous step several times until you finally remove the stain. If the area gets dried up, apply the white vinegar cleaning solution again and continue to blot the stain. Before long that perfume stain will no longer be in sight.
- Rinse the carpet with water and dry it up using your wet/dry vac. This helps avoid any residue from being left behind the carpet.
- If after removing the stain you still have a problem with the strong smell of the perfume, sprinkle some baking soda onto the affected area and leave it there overnight. Then, vacuum it the following morning to make your carpet odor-free.
Perfume spills can be very problematic and a chore to clean up. By following the guide above you can easily accomplish this task without any problems and get your carpet looking and smelling clean and fresh.
